The Sawnee-Cumming Optimist Clubs "Have a Safe Summer" Program will provide parents and children with valuable safety information in a fun, interactive environment. Individuals participating in this event will have the opportunity to take part in various exhibits and demonstrations such as bicycle safety, water safety (swimming and boating), stranger danger, fire safety, and internet safety.
The Forsyth County Sheriff's Department, Fire Department, and Ambulance Service will provide the kids an opportunity to see emergency response vehicles, including fire trucks, a police car, and an ambulance. The kids will meet and talk with firemen, policemen, and paramedics. The Sheriff's Department will also fingerprint and photograph for identification cards. Northside Hospital Forsyth will participate by sharing information on sun safety, nutritional eating habits, and the importance of exercise to combat childhood obesity. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Coast Guard Auxiliary, and Sea Scouts will demonstrate boating and water safety, along with rules of the lake. Keep Forsyth Beautiful will present information on insects and snakes in our area and how to treat insect bites.
